Faith is Love
Faith would be easier if were something tangible, something we could hold firmly in our hands. It would be easier it we could fix our eyes on faith and say, “This is faith, right here. It’s mine. I’ve definitely got it.”
But scripture tells us that faith is the evidence of things we cannot see.
That word, evidence, is an interesting one. Webster’s dictionary says that evidence is an outward sign, an indication. Evidence is something that furnishes proof. Evidence is a testimony. Evidence is one who bears witness.
Maybe it’s a stretch but it seems that faith, then, is an outward sign of our inner life. Faith is the testimony we give in the way that we live and love. As believers and followers of Jesus, our faith should bear witness to God’s transformative love.
Although you can’t touch or see faith, you CAN touch and see the evidence of faith. If we are seeking Jesus, spending time with him, getting to know him, and following his teachings, that is going to be evident in how we live.
Will we be perfect? Absolutely not. But we will be transforming into people of love because Jesus’ heartbeat was love. His purpose has and always will be to offer his unconditional love to all of those who are willing to accept it.
Faith looks like love.
So here is what I am inviting you to ponder with me this week as I consider what it looks like to be transformed by faith…
In your life, how is the way you love showing evidence of your faith?
Remember, this isn’t a question to ask yourself in a condemning way. There is no guilt or shame or condemnation in Christ’s perfect love. Instead, engage this question with gentle curiosity. Ask God to open your eyes to the way he is transforming you into a person of love. You might also ask, as I am, where God might want to transform you more into a person of love.
I am praying with you and praying for you.
Prayer
God, thank you for the way you transform us. Thank you that you invite us to become like you and to love like you. May your love be evident in us and may it flow through us. Amen.
