Come Every Day
I don’t know how you come into this Monday. I don’t know what is that you are carrying into this week, nor do I know what is in store for you as this week unfolds.
I don’t know if things feel heavy or if you feel carefree. I’m not sure if you’re feeling sad or joy filled. I’m not sure how you come because, as much as I’d like to be, I am not physically present with you today.
But God- Father, Son, and Spirit, are. Right here. Right now. In the middle of the everyday tasks of our day, God is present with us. Every day, he is here.
And his invitation is, “Come.”
Look at Matthew 11:28-30 NIV and listen to Jesus’ words.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””
Even if you’re weary. Come.
Even if you’re burdened. Come.
I have the true rest that you long for.
You can learn a new way of living that is rooted in love and flowing with grace.
You can grow from my gentle and humble instruction as I show you where to find real rest for your soul.
This isn’t hard.
It’s as easy as accepting the invitation to come.
Prayer:
God, Help me to come to you, knowing and trusting that you are there. Even when it’s hard to see or feel you, help me to know that you are with me. Thank you that you invite me to come to you in any time and in any situation. Regardless of my circumstances, you are here and you love me. I can be with you every day in the middle of my every day moments. What a gift! Thank you for your invitation to come to you. Amen.
Scripture for Meditation:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
Journal Reflection:
When you hear Jesus’ invitation to come, how do you feel? Do you feel a welcoming peace? Do you feel fear or resistance? Do you notice hesitation? Share this with God in your journal.
Practice:
This week, let’s practice presence with our self and with God. As you wake, take a moment and sit with God. Consider how you come and share that with God. Do you feel anxious about the day ahead? Are you excited about something? Do you find yourself filled with anger, joy, longing, peace, frustration, or gratitude? Do you hurt? What’s o your mind and heart? Come to the God who is there waiting for you and share what’s on your heart.
This is also a good way to connect with God before bed. How do you find yourself at the end of your day? Come to God and share that with him.
